What Does Psalm 34:2 Mean?

My soul will make its boast in the LORD; The humble will hear it and rejoice.

Psalm 34:2(NASB)

Verse of the Day

As fallen sinners who are part of the sinful race of humanity, we have nothing to boast about. We were born dead in our sins and are estranged from the God Who created us. We fall so far short of the glory of God, that prideful boasting and a self-inflated ego should never become part of the imagination of our hearts.

But there is one area in which each one of us can glory - and that is in the redeeming blood of Christ our Saviour. We can boast in the Lord our God and magnify His glorious name for the gracious things He has done in our lives.

He forgives every one of our iniquities and heals all our diseases. He has redeemed our life from death and corruption and has crowned us with His loving-kindness and tender mercy - which is new every morning.

He satisfies our daily needs and necessities and executes righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed and down-trodden. And in His grace the Lord has made known the way of salvation and life, through the living Word of God... Who became flesh and dwelt amongst us.

There is nothing in our own character, accomplishments, achievements, or ancestry, about which we can glory, for the record of our life is blotted with crimson-coated sin and is indelibly stained with innumerable ungodly acts. Our hearts are polluted with un-sanctified imaginations and our life is under the curse of sin.

My soul has nothing about which to boast... in and of itself. However, I will certainly make my boast in the Lord. I will bless the Lord at all times and His praise shall be continuously on my lips. My soul shall rejoice in God my Saviour... and all who are humble of heart will hear the good news of the gospel of grace and be glad.

I shall forever boast in the God of my salvation... for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, so that whosoever believes on HIM would not perish, but have everlasting life. For God so loved you and me, that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, what a privilege it is to be part of Your family and receive salvation by grace through faith, in the shed blood of our great God and Redeemer. Thank You that I have been made a new creation in Christ and am part of Your eternal family. In humility of heart and overwhelming thankfulness, I pray that from this day forward, I will glory in nothing else, but Jesus Christ and His righteousness - through Whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. Praise Your holy name. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
