The Lord chose Israel to be the one nation through whom He would reach a lost and dying world. They were to be a holy nation, separated unto God, who would act as a light to the Gentiles. They were to rescue lost people out of paganism and bring them into the family of God and His holy Temple at Jerusalem, but throughout their long history, they did not obey the Lord.

An amazing message was given to Zerubbabel (a descendent of king David), who having returned from the Babylonian captivity to govern Jerusalem, was the one chosen of God to start rebuilding the Jewish Temple. He was told by Zechariah the prophet that God would carry out the work: "'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says the LORD of hosts."

What an amazing sight it must have been when Jesus fulfilled this glorious prophecy that day, as He rode through the streets of Jerusalem sitting upon a donkey: "Even on a colt, the foal of an ass." He rode along, as prophesied, to the loud acclaim and happy songs of the jubilant multitude who recognised that this must be their promised Messiah, spoken of by the prophets of old. And here, we find the Lord Jesus finally fulfilling these words of read more...
This passage in Zechariah 11 is one of the most poignant sections in Scripture. It describes two shepherds - Jesus as the true Shepherd of Israel Who was betrayed for the price of a slave (30 pieces of silver) - and here in this verse, we read about the coming worthless shepherd who abandons the flock of God and justly deserves condemnation.

God has not finished with Israel, despite false teachings stating that she has been replaced by the Church. While many hold to this type of 'replacement theology' or proclaim the 'kingdom now' teaching, both are unbiblical and demonstrate a lack of understanding of the covenant God made with Israel and the mission He gave to the Church.
God's promises to Israel are equally as unbreakable as the promises He made to the Church, read more...
Many Old Testament prophets were given the responsibility to tell of the coming of the Jewish Messiah. However, they were not awarded the privilege of understanding that He would have two advents. His first coming portrayed Him as the suffering Servant of God, who would be rejected by men and led as a lamb to the slaughter, while His second advent spoke of His return in power and great glory as the Lion of the tribe of Judah, to set up the promised kingdom of read more...
In a nutshell, the final chapters of Zechariah teach that God's anointed King would be rejected at first, but in the end, will return in power and great glory to save Israel from their enemies, to establish His eternal kingdom on earth, and to rule and reign in righteousness and equity. This truth is in God's Word and cannot be changed.
It must have been a great encouragement for the post-exilic Jews, to know that God would, read more...
In the first ten chapters of his book, we find Zechariah the prophet, exhorting the nation of Israel to repent of their sin and to learn a lesson from the mistakes of their forefathers. Along with the prophet Haggai, Zechariah exhorted the people to get to work on rebuilding the temple of God which had remained in ruins, despite the edict of Cyrus many years earlier, and a further decree from Darius who succeeded him.

There are many biblical signs pointing to the end times, but there are no biblical prophecies that have to be fulfilled before the Rapture of the Church, when Christ comes to escort His Bride into heaven, but we are not left uninformed! We are told about the times, and seasons! However, we're exhorted to occupy 'til Jesus comes. We are to watch for Him, recognise that the consummation of the age is very close, and be ready for His imminent return... when, in the read more...
God had a particular plan for Israel from the beginning, and a specific purpose for the Church - whom He chose before the foundation of the world. Both are God's people, both are holy unto the Lord, and although Israel and the Church are distinct from each other, their roles are complementary, in God's perfect plan of redemption.
The work God has purposed for each is unique to their group, although their roles and responsibilities read more...
The fool has said in his heart that there is no God, and the scoffer has mocked the promise of His return, but the day is coming when the Lord Jesus Christ will return as King of kings and Lord of lords. In that day, and the earth will be filled with His glory, as the waters cover the sea, and He will reign over all the earth.
The absolute sovereign lordship of Israel's Messiah-King will one day reach its fulfilment, for He will read more...
Zechariah was a prophet of God who gave much insight into the first coming of the Messiah of Israel. He also recorded many prophesies that will happen during the 'time of Jacob's Trouble' when terrible tribulation will come upon the whole earth, but he also writes of the future reign on Christ on earth, when Jesus sets up His Millennial rule as King of kings and Lord of lords.
Line by painful line, we read in the book of Zechariah of read more...
