I sought the LORD, and He answered me, And delivered me from all my fears.Psalm 34:4(NASB)
It is the Holy Spirit of God that imparts life into the dead spirit of man - and it is that same Spirit of life that broods over the child of God and breathes hope into the heart and life of those that trust His name.
David was a man who experienced this closeness to the Lord. He was a man who blessed the Lord at all times and songs of praise were continually on his lips.
David acknowledged that the Lord is close to those that are humble of heart and who are ready and willing to seek the Lord in times of distress and danger. He was a man who feared his God and held fast to His precious promises. He had witnessed God's faithfulness on many occasions and David trusted in the Lord's deliverance, when his own, frail heart was fainting... from fear of what was coming on the earth.
Like so many of us, David sought the Lord and was able to testify, "The Lord heard and answered me, and delivered me from all my fears." No wonder David was able to rejoice that those who look for the Lord are filled with joyful hope. No surprise that he was able to proclaim that the faces of those that trust the Lord will shine with exultant radiance.
The Lord has promised, on many occasions, that the man or woman who seeks the Lord will find Him, if they search for Him with all their heart. But too often we forget that we seek Him because He first sought us. The good Shepherd of the sheep is the One Who searched us out first and convicted our heart of sin, of righteousness, and of judgement.
It was God Who searched for us, found us, and convicted us of our need of a Saviour, and it is the Spirit of God Who breathed the breath of life into our inner being by faith, when He found his sheep that was lost and we trusted Him as our God and Redeemer.
When we were hopelessly lost to His love and dead in our trespasses and sins, it was God, Himself Who searched us out and found us... for we formerly walked according to the course of this world and lived according to the prince of the power of the air - who is the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. But God in His grace found us and saved us, by faith.
Those of us who have been saved by grace through faith in Christ, are able to testify with David that we also sought the Lord for the forgiveness of sin and He graciously delivered us out of the hands of the enemy - triumphing over sin and death and redeeming our life from the pit.
What a gracious God we have... for while we were yet sinners Christ died for us, and together with David and a cloud of witnesses, we are able to testify: "I also sought the LORD, and He answered me. And He delivered me from all my fears." Yes, we can rejoice and say with all the saints: "I will bless the LORD at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul will make its boast in the LORD. The humble will hear it and rejoice. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together. I will bless the LORD at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul will make its boast in the LORD. The humble will hear it and rejoice. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together!"
Heavenly Father, You are worthy to be praised and I will bless You at all times and in all places. I will make my boast in the Lord, for I sought after You and You heard my cry and answered me. You have redeemed my life from the clutches of the evil one and delivered me from all my fears. You have forgiven my sin and clothed me in Christ's own righteousness, for His name's sake - and You alone are worthy of my praise and thanksgiving forever and ever, AMEN.
