What Does Psalm 1:2 Mean?

But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.

Psalm 1:2(NASB)

Verse of the Day

The Word of God comes to us as His full and final revelation to man, and it outlines God's divine plans and purposes towards mankind. Those who know the Lord and delight themselves in Him and His Word of truth, will receive the dear desire of their heart.

The ultimate reality of God's plan for us, is that Christ Jesus is to be all, and He is to be all in all. And we discover that the believer who reads, marks, learns, inwardly digests, and meditates day and night on the Word of the Lord does not become embroiled in the ways of the world.

Those that search the Scriptures daily are not only wise, but truly blessed of the Lord: "For blessed is the man who delights in the law of the Lord and meditates therein day and night." He will be like a tree securely planted by streams of life-giving water, which yields much fruit in its season, to the glory of God.

The psalmist is not referring to the specifics of the Mosaic Law in this verse, but to the undivided law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus which has made us free from the law of sin and death. He is talking about the whole council of God's Word rightly divided, for all Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness.

We are to study to show ourselves approved. We are to abide in His Word and to meditate often upon it. We are to feed on His Word by faith with thanksgiving, and we are to be continuously nourished by the milk and meat of the written Word of God. And this will result in our growing in grace and in a knowledge of the Lord Jesus Who is the crucified, resurrected, ascended, living Word of God Who is seated on the right hand of the Father.

The more we take time to spend with the Lord, the closer our fellowship with the Father will become, and the more we will be captivated in His precious Word.

The more we delight in the law of the Lord and take time to genuinely meditate upon the pure, written Word of God, the more we will grow in grace and continue to be transformed into the lovely likeness of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ - to Whom be all praise and glory.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your written Word. Help me to read it, to meditate upon it, and to apply its truth to my life. May I not be conformed to this world but, day by day, become more and more like Jesus Christ, in Whose name I pray, AMEN.
