What Does Psalm 139:1 Mean?

{To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.} O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.

Psalm 139:1(KJV)

Verse of the Day

We are told that no one knows the heart of a man except himself - and how we love to give a false image of ourselves to one another. How we try to justify keeping the truth of who we really are, a secret from other people. But whatever masks we use in front of family, friends, and other folks - God knows. The Lord knows every little thing about us, for God knows everything.

He knows all about us, past, present, and future. He knows every aspect of our lives, every secret sin, every little lie, every impure thought. He knows each word we are going to say before we utter one syllable, for God knows everything.

When David said, "Thou hast searched me and known me," he was stating a truth that is equally relevant for us today. He knows you and he knows me, intimately.

This should not worry us, for God is unchanging and unchangeable. This should comfort us, for we have been accepted in the Beloved, by grace through faith, and no matter what we have said or done or will do, God knows us and He loves us.

How precious that God has searched us, known us, and has scheduled every day of our lives. How precious that He has promised never to leave us nor forsake us.

Should we not seek to remember the incredible privilege we have as His children? And though we may not understand how this knowledge is possible, let us trust every day of our lives into our incomprehensible God Who died that we might live.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, what joy it is to know that You know everything about me. Even the things that I do wrong can never separate me from Your unfailing love. Help me to live out this truth in my life, and may I do only those things that are pleasing in Your sight. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
