What Does Psalm 107:8 Mean?

Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!

Psalm 107:8(NASB)

Verse of the Day

This is a beautiful song of rejoicing in the Lord where the theme of thanksgiving and praise for the goodness of God and His everlasting mercy, threads its way like a shining thread from beginning to end. The Psalmist highlights from personal experience and from national history, the wonderful works of God and the many ways that He has been good and gracious to the children of men. Oh give thanks to the Lord He is good His mercy endures forever. O that men would give thanks to the Lord, for His wonderful works to the children of men.

Although the Psalmist rehearses the many ways that God in His grace rescued His people from Egyptian bondage, supplied their need in their wilderness wanderings, opened the prison doors of the captives, healed those that were seriously ill, delivered His people from terrible storms, and governed His people Israel with goodness and grace, this is a beautiful song of rejoicing that all the redeemed of the Lord are able to sing.

He is a God Who always hears and responds to all our cries for help. He satisfies our hunger, refreshes our soul, encourages our heart, and leads us forth by the better way.

Like Israel, we too have been rescued from slavery to sin and released from the curse of the law. God has supplied all our needs according to His riches in glory and has given us the permanently, indwelling Holy Spirit to lead and to guide, to teach and to train, to correct and to comfort, and to conform us day by day into the image and likeness of the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour and Lord.

He has brought us out of darkness into His glorious light, and set our feet on the pathway of peace and the road of righteousness. Oh that men would praise the LORD for His goodness. Praise the Lord O my soul and all that is within me praise His holy name for His wonderful works to the children of men!

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for redeeming me out of the kingdom of Satan, into the kingdom of Your dear Son. Lord, there are no words that can express the joy and gratitude that I have, to know that I have been saved by grace through faith in Christ and have been adopted into Your family, through time and into eternity. In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN.
