What Does Psalm 15:2 Mean?

He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness, And speaks truth in his heart.

Psalm 15:2(NASB)

Verse Thoughts

In the previous Psalm, David identified the man who denies the existence of God, and who refuses His offer of salvation by grace through faith in His Word of truth.. as the natural man - the unbelieving fool, who has said in his heart: 'there is no God'.

In this precious Psalm however he lists the qualities of the spiritual man, whose faith is credited to him as righteousness. David addresses the rhetorical question to God Himself by asking: Lord, Who may abide in Your tabernacle and who may dwell in Your holy hill? and then promptly lists a number of observable qualities that are the outward, identifying marks of a man or woman who believes in the existence of God and trusts Him to fulfil all that He has promised in His Word.. such are the qualities of the man or woman of God.. who walks in spirit and truth and abides in Christ, and He in him.

The main identifying marks of the man of God on David's list.. is one who walks with integrity, uprightness of spirit and a principled heart. These initial qualities describes a virtuous man or woman who is desirous to walk in righteousness and in equity in every area of life.. and to speak the truth in love.. not only with our lips but in our lives as we die to self and live for Christ to the praise and honour of our heavenly Father.

As believers who have been born from above.. we are positioned in Christ and we are clothed in His own righteousness - and our joy and delight should be to walk with integrity, to work the works of righteousness and to speak the truth in our heart.

The fool may say in his heart that there is no God but the born-again believer is the one who by grace through faith and in the power of the Holy Spirit is enabled to walk with integrity, and work the works of righteousness.. to speak truth in his heart - to guard his words and tame his tongue. They are the ones who do good and not evil to their neighbours and who think of others as better than themselves - they are the ones who eschew evil and seek to do good. They are the ones who lives reflect honesty, truthfulness, trustworthiness and grace.. and they are the ones who put on the whole armour of God and stand fast in the Lord and in the power of His might.

David knew that the person who walks with integrity, works the works of righteousness and speaks the truth in their heart by faith.. is the man or woman who trusts in the Lord with all their heart and does not lean on their own understanding. They are the ones who live in complete dependence upon God to His greater honour and glory and they are the ones who learn to say in all things - not my will but Thine be done to Your praise and glory. May we like David walk with integrity, work righteousness, and speak truth in our heart, by faith with thanksgiving.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the truths that are contained in the Psalms of David and the many lessons that I can learn from them. Thank You that by faith I have been positioned in Christ and am seated with Him in heavenly places. I pray that I may give the honour due to His name by walking in integrity and righteousness all the days of my life and I pray that I may speak the truth in love in the power of Your indwelling Holy Spirit.. to Your praise and glory - this I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.
