What Does Romans 1:16 Mean?

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Romans 1:16(KJV)

Verse of the Day

Paul, the servant of Christ Jesus, who was called and set apart to proclaim the gospel of God to Jew and Gentile alike, was not ashamed to take the good news of the lowly carpenter Who died for the sin of the world and rose again the third day, to the sophisticated capital of the Roman empire. He did not hesitate to proclaim the gospel of Christ to a skeptical world of fallen men, despite his message being a stumbling block to the proud Jewish nation and foolishness to educated Greeks citizens, for Paul knew that "the gospel of Christ is the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes."

Neither Jew nor Greek have the ability, credentials, or capability to save themselves, for God alone has the capacity to save fallen man. God alone has the power to redeem a race of sinners, and the only vehicle through Whom God offers salvation to Jew and Gentile alike, is by believing the gospel of Christ. For there is no other name given among men whereby we must be saved.

It is through believing on the gospel of Christ (which is the death, burial, and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ alone), that we are saved. In Him alone is there salvation to everyone who believes, the Jew first and also to the Greek.

Throughout the book of Acts, we see this principle of "to the Jew first and also to the Greek," being fulfilled in Paul's ministry. But today, the gospel is to be preached to Jew and Gentile alike, for all have sinned, all fall short of the glory of God, and all need the gospel of Christ "which is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes on the Lord Jesus Christ."

My Prayer

Father, I pray that, like Paul, I will boldly proclaim the gospel of Christ to all with whom I come in contact. Only in Him is there life and light, hope and love. I know that the gospel of Christ is the power of God unto salvation, to all who believe on Him Who died and rose from the dead. To Him be all praise and glory, world without end, AMEN.
