What Does Romans 2:5 Mean?

But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,

Romans 2:5(NASB)

Verse of the Day

The amazing truth of the glorious gospel of grace is that repentant sinners who have fled for refuge to the Cross of Calvary for the forgiveness of sins "do not come into judgment, but have passed out of death and into life."

Believers in Christ will never have to face the great day of God's wrath, nor stand before the Great White Judgement Throne of God, because Christ took the punishment for our sin in our stead, by grace through faith. He was wounded for OUR transgressions, and the wrath of God was poured out upon Him in fullest measure instead of upon US, simply because we believe on our Lord Jesus Christ.

Praise God that we who have trusted Christ are no longer under His condemnation and will never face that Great White Judgement Throne of God, but there are many who are pridefully unrepentant of their sin and whose hearts remain rebellious towards the Lord's offer of redemption. They stubbornly reject His gracious gift of salvation and as a result are "storing up wrath for themselves, in the day of wrath."

Though mockers deride the Word of truth and scoffers scorn at the promise of Christ's return, a day is fast approaching when the righteous judgment of God will be revealed to everyone, and God will render to every man according to his works.

God's judgement is according to truth, and His justice takes into account the accumulated guilt of those that suppress the truth of God in their unrighteous acts, their rebellions ways, and their prideful pursuits.

The eternal consequences of rejecting God's offer of salvation are fearful, but those that stubbornly reject God's gracious offer of free salvation, develop and retain a hardened and unrepentant heart. They have become willingly ignorant of the glorious gospel of grace, which is a free gift of God to whosoever will come.

God is long-suffering and not willing that any should perish but desires that all come to repentance. But "because of man's stubbornness and unrepentant heart many are storing up wrath for themselves in that great day of God's wrath," when the righteous judgment of God will finally and fully be revealed.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, I praise and thank You that Your love and justice met at Calvary. It is beyond the realm of my understanding that You should love the world so much, that You gave Your only begotten Son to receive the full fury of Your righteous wrath and holy justice against sin so that by faith, we might be made the righteousness of God, in Him. Thank You, Lord, AMEN.
