What Does Ephesians 1:14 Mean?

who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory.

Ephesians 1:14(NASB)

Verse of the Day

Contracts, treaties, and engagements can be all broken. People can renege on their promises and can even forego a financial down-payment to wriggle out of a commitment or covenant. But this is not the case with God. We have been purchased for God with the blood of Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit is His down-payment to us.

It is the indwelling Holy Spirit that has been given by the Father, to every newborn believer at the point of their salvation, and He has given the Holy Spirit of promise as a guarantee, a down-payment, a pledge that confidently assures us that our heavenly inheritance stands fast forever.

We have been given eternal life and have been told that eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor has man been able to imagine the wonderful things that God has prepared for those that love him, and the gift of the Holy Spirit to all believers is God's unbreakable surety to us.

The Holy Spirit is our guarantee. He is the down-payment of our full inheritance in Christ, which is being kept by God in trust for us unto the day of redemption, that wonderful day when Christ comes in the clouds of glory to take us to be with Himself in heaven.

Today, we have the first-fruits of the Spirit, which are as yet incomplete and imperfect. But on that glorious day, Jesus will consummate His pledge to us and we shall be without spot and wrinkle, having a body like unto His glorious body - when we shall be fully redeemed, body, soul, and spirit.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending the Holy Spirit of promise as a pledge of Your faithfulness to fulfil all that You have purposed in my life. Help me to remember that I have been bought with a price and to live a life worthy of my calling. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
