What Does Revelation 19:13 Mean?

He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

Revelation 19:13(NASB)

Verse of the Day

The return of Christ to set up His Millennial Kingdom, the destruction of the wicked, the rejoicing in heaven that accompanies His second advent as Supreme Ruler of the universe, and the marriage supper of the Lamb, are the topics of focus in Revelation chapter 19.

Not only is this the climatic chapter of the entire book, but it reaches the glorious consummation of God's redemptive plan, when He establishes His King on Zion's holy hill. This is the point where God gives the nations to Jesus as His inheritance and makes the ends of the earth His possession.

Once the loud rejoicing of a great multitude in heaven have testified that the Lord God Omnipotent reigns, and having pronounced that His judgement is just, His salvation is sure, and His glory and power belongs to God, we are treated to the most awe-inspiring description of the Lord Jesus.

John describes how heaven opens to reveal a Rider on a white horse. His name is Faithful and True and He is coming in victory to judge the world in righteousness. He is returning to wage war against the rebellious world system. We read that His eyes flash like flames of burning fire, His head is crowned with many royal diadems, and He has an inscrutable name written on Him, which no one knows except Himself.

Perhaps verse 13 contains the most stunning description of Christ in Scripture for we read: "He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God." The Lord Jesus is coming in power and great judgement. The blood stain splattered on His garment is not His sacrificial blood that was offered at Calvary, but a symbol of the blood of His enemies whom He tramples in the wine-press of God's terrible wrath.

Christ is portrayed as the divine Warrior-Judge Who is coming to avenge the blood of His slain bond-servants. He is riding in triumph to set up His kingdom, having defeated the forces of spiritual wickedness in high places. He has put to flight the principalities and powers of evil and destroyed the satanic rulers of this dark world.

The suffering Servant of the Gospels, Who was so gentle and meek at His first coming, is revealed as King of kings and Lord of lords Who will strike down the nations and rule them with a rod of iron, as He treads His enemies underfoot in the wine-press of God's fierce anger. The Almighty God is finally returning as the conquering Sovereign on the universe, the Lion of the tribe of Judah: "His name is the Word of God."

Jesus Christ is the incarnate Word, the Word made flesh. He was in the beginning with God and is Himself Almighty God, and He is worshipped forever. He is the One Who is appointed Heir of all things and it is through Him that the worlds were made. He is the express image of the invisible God. He is the One Who upholds all things by the mighty Word of His eternal power.

The Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword. The Word of God powerfully penetrates the heart of man, quickens the conscience, and ignites faith in the one that is dead in sin. The Word of God convicts of sin, cuts to the heart, and judges a man's thoughts and desires.

Jesus Christ is the Word of God Who lives and abides forever, and the written Word of God testifies that HE is the One Who will be clothed with a robe dipped in blood when He comes as the Divine warrior-Judge, riding on a white horse in His might, majesty, dominion, and power, to set up His Millennial Kingdom and judge the world in righteousness.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus is the Word made flesh. Thank You for this powerful description of Jesus as the conquering King of kings. I pray that Your Holy Spirit would convict the hearts of many who have not yet trusted in Christ for salvation, for it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of an angry God. Have mercy, Lord, and fulfil Your plans and purposes for Your own praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.
