What Does Luke 18:41 Mean?

"What do you want Me to do for you?" And he said, "Lord, I want to regain my sight!"

Luke 18:41(NASB)

Verse of the Day

Jesus was sent to the lost sheep of the house of spiritually blind Israel during His First Coming. He was sent to heal them, to open their eyes, and to remove them from their former spiritual darkness. He was sent to bring them into His glorious light so that they might fulfil the ministry that had been entrusted to them so many centuries before, to tell the nations of the good news of God. And when the Lord Jesus opened this blind beggar's eyes, it was a picture of blind beggarly Israel whom the Lord desired to heal, for the kingdom of heaven was near.

But although they rejected and crucified their King, their actions opened the floodgate of grace to the Gentile nations, which will continue until the Son of David, in His abundant grace, reestablishes His work through Israel, and they will become the head and not the tail in Christ's Millennial Kingdom.

But what lessons we can learn from Christ's dealings with His people, Israel. Jesus is ready and willing to open the eyes of all who are blinded by the god of this world. He will open our eyes and guide us into all truth, if only we will ask Him.

We have the blessed assurance that: "If we ask anything according to his will, he hears us." And we have the indwelling Holy Spirit, illuminating our path and teaching us His will, through meditating on His Word.

Paul underlines the importance of asking the Lord to open our eyes to the things of the Lord, through the wisdom and revelation of the Holy Spirit and through the washing of water by the Word, when He writes: "I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe."

If the Lord Jesus were to ask YOU this question today: "What do you want Me to do for you?" I wonder what you would say…

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for opening my eyes to the beautiful gospel of the grace of God. Lord, I ask that You would guide me into all truth and that You would protect me from false teachings and doctrines of demons. I pray that I may grow in grace and in a knowledge of the Lord Jesus, and that You would use me to forward Your plans and purposes as You see fit in my life. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
