What Does John 17:22 Mean?

"The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one;

John 17:22(NASB)

Verse Thoughts

We who were once dead in our sins and eternally separated from God, were drawn near to Him and placed in His family because we trusted in His Son as our Saviour. Not only are we forgiven of our sins and redeemed by His blood, but we have been given the glory that Christ Himself was given by the Father. OH! this is not the glory of His deity or His divine nature, His omniscient character or His almighty attributes, for in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, for Christ is the Creator and we are His creatures. But the glorious truth is His grace and glory is revealed in those who have been endowed with the indwelling Spirit of Christ and the multitude of blessings that emanate from Him.

Christ is the incarnate Head of a new humanity, a new creation. Christ is the author of a new race of man, for He is the second Man, the last Adam, God incarnate. We have been given the glory of the gospel of Christ and the many precious promises that it contains. We have been fed with the glorious truths that it unveils. We have drunk deeply of the fountain of grace that floods into our hearts and flows out into a hurting world. We have been showered with the beautiful benefits that come from being in Christ and the efficacy of being one with Him.

The glories of His deity, His divine nature, His omniscient character, and His almighty attributes, remain Christ's alone, but the glories of His perfect humanity have been given to all who trust in His name, for He died and rose again so that we too could die to sin and rise into the newness of His glorious life. Death no longer holds dominion over us for we are a new creation in Christ.

He has covered us with the robe of His righteousness and adopted us into His holy and eternal family, and the glory of His supernatural life and His self-sacrificing love that is being formed in all those that are His, is the glory of the only begotten Son of God, full of grace and truth, shining through the lives of all His children, for we are one with Him.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, how I praise Your holy name for Your goodness and loving kindness to us and to all men, for You have redeemed us by Your blood and made us one with Christ Jesus our Lord. May I shine forth His glory in my life, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
