"I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
John 17:14(NASB)
God loved the world so much that He gave us His only begotten Son. He gave us the Word – the Word made flesh – the Word Who was God of God and Light of Light. And the Word came to tabernacle among us, to live as one of us. He came as Man born of a woman – God of God yet Man of man, born into our sinful race as one of us so that He could be the propitiation for our sins and demonstrate the love of God towards us.
Christ also loved the Church so much that He gave Himself up for us to make us holy, cleansing us by the washing with water through the Word. And Christ, the living Word of God, was made flesh so that He could fully reveal the only true God, for the Word of God is the gracious gift of God to us all.
Christ spoke only the words that were given to Him by the Father, and He gave those precious words to His disciples. His chosen apostles would record those words in the holy Word of God for our learning. Christ spoke only those words to us that were given to Him by the Father, that we might KNOW that He is the Christ the Son of the living God, and in Him have life and have it more abundantly.
This is the most glorious message that anyone will hear in their life, but the verse cautions us that it will not be accepted by the world. Indeed, Jesus told His disciples that He will be hated, they will be hated, and the joyous message that they bring will be hated by the world. Why? Because they are not of the world, Jesus is not of the world, and the message is not of the world.
But the truth is that God spoke the world into being by His WORD and His Word was manifest in the flesh as a precious gift from the Father. May the Word of God dwell in us richly. May the Word of God give us wisdom and understanding. And may the Word of God guide us into all truth and fill our lives to overflowing.
Loving Father, I love and worship You for Your great and gracious love in sending the Lord Jesus so that we could receive Your Word in our hearts, by faith in Him. Thank You for Your Word, which reminds me that this world is not my home and I am just passing through on the way to my heavenly home. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
