What Does Revelation 21:6 Mean?

Then He said to me, "It is done I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost.

Revelation 21:6(NASB)

Verse of the Day

From beginning to end, the Bible reveals God's plan of redemption. It stretches from before the creation of the world and the fall of Adam, to the revelation of Jesus Christ, the ushering in of the eternal kingdom of God, and far beyond into the eternal ages to come.

When Satan has been judged, the wicked have been punished, death has been destroyed, and all things have been placed under His feet, the great God of the universe will make all things new. He will sit on His throne of righteousness and declare: "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last. I am He that liveth and was dead, and behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen."

All who are thirsty will be given the living water of life to drink. They will not be hurt by the second death, their souls will be refreshed, and the Lord will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be swallowed up in victory and the One who sits on His majestic throne will finally say: "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega. I am the Beginning and the End. I am the first and the last and I will give to the thirsty from the spring of living water as an everlasting gift."

Everyone who has been saved by grace through faith in Christ will be victors who will inherit these things, and thirsty souls will be refreshed and renewed. All will have the joy of hearing Him say: "I will be his God, and he will be My son."

The things written in the book of Revelation are not the imagines of some mystic, but the revelation of Jesus Christ through God's eternal plan which the Father gave to His servant, John for our learning: "All who read and take to heart the words of this prophecy and keep what is written therin, will be blessed beyond compare, but cowards, unbelievers, vile, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, will have their share in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur which is the second death."

But who is the one who says, "It is done... I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last."? Who promises to give the living water of life to everyone who thirsts? It is Jesus, the supreme ruler of heaven and earth. It is the Lord Jesus, Who died, is risen from the dead, and is alive for evermore.

In the beginning, the first Adam lost dominion over the earth through sin, but Jesus paid the price for sin through His own blood which He freely shed at Calvary, and became the second and last Adam. He regained man's authority over heaven and earth; He has the keys of the eternal kingdom of Heaven, and He holds the keys of death and hell.

It is Jesus who will bring God's plan of redemption to its conclusion and usher in the eternal state, for He is the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. He is the Creator of the world and the Object of His own creation.

He is the Perfecter and Finisher of our Faith. He is the Anchor of our soul, the Bread of Life, the Living Water, and He is the One who gives the water of eternal life to whosoever thirsts, for He is the One Who has provided salvation, by grace through faith in Him. For Jesus alone is King of kings and Lord of lords.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, how I praise You for Your gracious plan of redemption which starts and finishes in the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank You that He won the victory over sin and Satan, death and hell, and that all who come to Him for salvation will be satisfied and blessed forever. Thank You that Your saving water of life is a free gift of Your grace and that no one will be turned away.  Bring many into the truth of this wonderful gospel and bring thirsty souls to a knowledge and understanding of Who Jesus is and what He has done for each one of us. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
