What Does Luke 3:38 Mean?

the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

Luke 3:38(NASB)

Verse of the Day

The host of heaven and shining stars were created of God in one mighty moment: "Let there be..." But God formed one man from the dust of the ground that He had just created: "And breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being in the image of God." Adam became the unique father of the race of men: "And Adam was of God."

Every human being was not created at one moment in time, as were the angelic host, and yet every man that will ever live is of our forefather, Adam. Each son of Adam is formed secretly in his mother's womb. We are fearfully and wonderfully made, for God created our inmost being and knit each one together in our mother's womb. God ordained every day of our lives, and each day is written in His book.

However glorious it is to be a physical offspring of Adam and a member of a race that was created in the image and likeness of God, it pales into insignificance when we consider that in Christ we are the spiritual sons of God. Our parentage in Him goes into the realms of eternity past, where the triune God chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world: "That we should be holy and blameless before Him."

As members of the human race we can say with confidence that we are of Seth - who was of Adam - who was of God.

But as citizens of heaven and members of the new creation in Jesus Christ, we can say with reverence and awe that we are of Christ Who was begotten of the Father, very God of very God, Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary - God made Man - and we are: "Of Jesus Christ."

My Prayer

Father, I kneel in awe and wonder as I contemplate Who You are and what You have done for me. Seeing Your perfect plan travelling through the generations of Jesus' genealogy is just amazing. You are worthy of my eternal love and praise, forever and ever, AMEN.
