What Does Hebrews 1:2 Mean?

in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.

Hebrews 1:2(NASB)

Verse of the Day

Most men did not listen to the appointed representatives through whom the eternal, omnipotent God chose to communicate His astonishing plan of salvation. But despite man's rebellious rejection of His plan of redemption, God the Father graciously spoke once more to humankind, through His dearly beloved Son Who Himself is God and the heir of all things, Who Himself is God-eternal, God-all-holy, God-almighty, God from eternity, and Creator of the world.

The first few verses of Hebrews should stagger the minds of men, and we should pay close attention to all that God has chosen to say to us through His Son. In the Gospels, God spoke predominantly through Jesus of Nazareth as Son of Man, but in the book of Hebrews He is presented uniquely as the Son of God and heir of all things.

God's final revelation to humanity, which came through the only begotten Son of God nearly 2000 years ago, far out-shone all He had revealed to the prophets of old by means of signs and wonders, visions and dreams, as recorded in the history of Israel. The prophets testified of their coming Messiah. But the Son of God was revealed as the appointed Christ, the Lamb of God, Saviour of the world, and Son of Man. The prophets of old pointed forward to His coming, but the Son of God was the fulfilment of all that was spoken of through Law, the prophets, and the psalms.

At His First Coming, He came as the sacrificial Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world by His death on the Cross and His Resurrection from the grave. At His Second Coming, He will come as the worthy Lamb of God Who is seated upon the throne of God's glory, the Lamb Who was slain to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and blessing.

Jesus came 2000 years ago as Son of God and Son of Man. He came as the living Word of God, the Word made flesh, and thus when God spoke to us by His Son, He became God's final WORD to humanity, which is recorded in the written Word of God. And for centuries, we have been living in the last days - the time of God's full and final revelation to mankind: "For long ago God spoke to our ancestors by the prophets at different times and in different ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, Whom He appointed the Heir of all things and through Whom also he created the world."

Hallelujah, praise the Lord.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the message of salvation and grace to all that You sent through the Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of Man. Thank You that all who believe on His name will not be condemned but have everlasting life. I will sing of Your love forever, my loving Saviour and gracious Lord. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
