What Does Ephesians 2:18 Mean?

for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.

Ephesians 2:18(NASB)

Verse of the Day

As believers in Christ, we plead His righteousness. As Christians, we come to God in the name of Jesus. We are not worthy to gather up the crumbs under His table, but we can boldly approach the throne of grace because we appeal to Christ's worthiness and call on His righteousness. We petition the Father through the precious blood of His only begotten Son, and we approach the throne of grace in the name of Jesus: "For there is no other name given among men through Whom we have access to God."

It is by grace through faith in Christ's redeeming blood that we have been brought near to God and been given peace with Him. It is believing on Christ's finished work at Calvary that we have been reconciled to the Father (in one body through the Cross) so that now there is neither Jew nor Gentile, male or female, young or old, slave or free.

It is by trusting in the death, burial, and Resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, that we have access by one Spirit to the Father and can boldly draw near to the throne of God, confident that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

But there is further, glorious access that each born-again believer has to the Father through the Son, as we abide in Him and He in us, for He is our heavenly Mediator. Jesus is seated on the right hand of the Majesty on High, continuously interceding for us and pleading our case to our Father in heaven so that we may remain in fellowship with the Son and enjoy sweet communion with our Heavenly Father.

We approach the Father through the Son, and we have this incredible access through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, for greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. As we reflect on what Christ has done for us and as we contemplate what the Father has graciously given to sinners who are deserving of hell, should not the soul of every blood-bought child of God thrill with grateful thanks and never-ending praise?

What a privilege to know that it is through Christ alone that we have access by one Spirit to the Father, for ever and ever, Amen.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, it is by the grace of God that I am what I am: a blood-bought child of God with free access into Your presence to find grace to help in time of need. Thank You that Christ paid the full price for my sin and willingly gave up His life so that I might live eternally. Thank You that today He is in heaven interceding for me, and thank You that I have Your indwelling Holy Spirit, giving me access to You every moment of the day. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
