not from works, so that no one can boast.
Ephesians 2:9(HCSB)
The full price of salvation was paid by Christ on Calvary's Cross and can never be gained in any other way, except as a free gift of grace. And that salvation is accessed by faith in the finished work of Christ Jesus, the eternal Son of God and perfect Son of Man.
No part of salvation can ever never be gained by man's works, for men can never be good enough to pay the price of sin. The amazing truth is that because of God's wonderful grace, sinners can be forgiven of their sins and saved from eternal death. And this salvation is accessed by faith. We receive it when we believe. God gives us salvation when we trust in Jesus as Saviour.
We were SAVED / JUSTIFIED by grace when we first believed. But we are not only saved by grace, we are also to grow in this grace. We are to become mature in our Christian life by grace, to live by grace and not by works. We are to be SANCTIFIED by grace and not of works.
We are to mature in our Christian life by grace and not of works, and one day we will also be glorified by grace through faith. For just as God's saving grace is only accessed by faith, so God's sanctifying grace and His glorifying grace is similarly only accessed by faith, and not of works.
There is nothing whatsoever that we can do to gain salvation, pay for salvation, work for salvation, or add to salvation, nor get credits towards any part of our salvation, for every aspect of salvation is God's gift of grace, not of works so that no one can boast.
No one but Christ can ever take credit for our salvation. No one can justify themselves, sanctify themselves, or glorify themselves. Every aspect of salvation is a gracious gift from God and can only be accessed by faith in Christ as Saviour, not of works so that no one is able to boast.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing me to a deeper understanding, that in myself there is no good thing that is acceptable to You in my Christian life. It is only by grace through faith in the work of the Son of God Who loved me and gave Himself for me, that makes me acceptable to You. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
