What Does Ephesians 2:6 Mean?

and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

Ephesians 2:6(NASB)

Verse of the Day

As believers we are united with Christ, and because the Lord Jesus broke the power of sin and death and hell when He rose from the dead, the strength of sin in our lives has also been broken and we have been raised up into newness of life, in Him.

But God did so much more for us when the Lord Jesus died and rose from the dead (and then ascended into heaven, to sit at the right hand of the Father in great glory and majesty), we discover that we have a new and eternal position, simply because we believe in Jesus. We have been positioned in Christ and exalted together with Him into heavenly places, IN HIM. We have been seated spiritually in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.

Our physical body may still be living on the earth, but our spiritual position is in the heavenlies, in Christ. Positionally and eternally, we are complete in Christ, yet we are to grow in grace and in a knowledge of the Lord Jesus during the rest of our time on earth.

While positionally and spiritually we are already seated together with Christ in the heavenly realms, our physical condition may seem to contradict the truth of our new position in Him.

We died with Christ, we are dead to the world and our life is hidden in Him, and yet we are daily to put to death the things that are of the world and the lust of the flesh.

We were raised up to newness of life and are complete in Him, we have put on the new man in Christ and are seated with Him in heavenly realms, and yet we walk this earth and are charged to keep on being renewed in our minds, and to put off the old self with its evil practices.

While our spiritual POSITION in Christ is assured our physical CONDITION is very different, and so we are to trust God at His Word and reckon all that He has told us in His world, is the truth. There is no contradiction in God's Word, so let us praise God that He raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms, and let us live our lives by faith, with thanksgiving, in a manner that is worthy of our exalted positioned in Christ, and glorifies our Father Who is in heaven.

My Prayer

Loving Father, what an honour and blessing that I am seated with Christ in heavenly places. I pray that as I view my life from my heavenly position, everything would be put into proper perspective. Help me to always set my mind on things above, rather than things on the earth. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
