What Does 1 Timothy 1:17 Mean?

Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

1 Timothy 1:17(NASB)

Verse of the Day

What a beautiful and comforting description of our God and Father. He is the eternal, immortal, invisible King of the ages, the Ruler of time, the Sovereign of eternity, the Governor of the earth, and the Creator of the universe. He neither sleeps nor grows weary, upholding all with the might of His power. He is in full control of all that was, and is, and is to come, for He knows the end from the beginning and has scheduled every day of our lives.

Paul begins this section of Scripture laying out the beauty of the gospel. Though we were dead in our sins, at enmity with God and eternally separated from Him, in His grace and love He stooped down in the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ and rescued us from slavery to sin and the eternal death sentence under which we were all placed.

Christ came into the world to save sinners, and Paul labels himself as the worst of sinners to whom Christ would use as an example. Paul is inferring that if Christ can save him, He can save anyone. There is no-one outside the realm of Christ's saving love and all who believe in Him and His work on the Cross will receive eternal life. No surprise that after this description, Paul, who considered himself to be the least of the apostles and chief of sinners, then penned this beautiful and comforting description of our God.

When we sit quietly and consider these words and the awesome and weighty meaning behind them, all we can do is fall at the feet of our Saviour and worship Him: "To the only God our Saviour, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority before all time and now and forever."

Let us spend the rest of our days giving honour and praise and glory and blessing to God. Let us join together and worship and glorify our Lord, for He alone is our God and Saviour: "Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory forever and ever. Amen."

My Prayer

Loving Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me enough to visit Your creation in the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank You that He loved me enough to die for me on the Cross so that I might live with Him into eternity. Thank You that Jesus truly is my glorious King of the ages, deserving of all my love and praise through time and into eternity. Praise Your glorious name forever. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
