What Does 2 Peter 1:2 Mean?

Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;

2 Peter 1:2(NASB)

Verse of the Day

God commended His love towards us in that while we were still sinners and estranged from Himself, Christ died for us, forgave us of our sins, removed us from condemnation, came to take up residence within our hearts, and abide within us. We are positioned in Christ Who gave us His life, promised to do a good work within us, bestowed on us eternal life, and poured into us the riches of His glory, simply because we trusted Him as Saviour.

God made peace with us when we were born from above, and gave us His inner, perfect peace within, a peace which passes all understanding. He also promised us an inheritance in Christ that is beyond our imagination. And yet, Peter prays that the grace and peace of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ be multiplied in our lives and magnified in our hearts.

God has given us everything we need for living a godly life: "Pressed down, shaken together, and running over," and yet Peter's desire for all God's children is that His grace and His peace be multiplied to us all.

The Lord Jesus is not simply God's only begotten Son, but is Himself Deity, God incarnate, very God of very God, in Whom dwells all the perfect, holy, and eternal attributes and majesty of our Creator God. Here at the start of his second epistle, we discover this wise, old, fisher-of-men, desiring an overabundance of God's undeserved grace and peace to be our portion.

We are not worthy to gather up the crumbs under His table and yet He is the God of all grace, abundant grace, multiplied grace, and He is the Father of all mercies, comfort, and peace.

May God's abundant grace and incomprehensible peace continue to be multiplied towards all His children as we seek to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk in humble submission before Him all the days of our life - in love.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your grace and mercy, Your comfort and peace, and that You have given me all that is needful for life and godliness through the knowledge of Jesus. Thank You for the riches of Your grace and peace which continue to be multiplied with every passing day as I come to a deeper knowledge of You. May Your name be glorified in my heart and in my life, to Your honour and glory. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
