What Does 2 Peter 1:12 Mean?

Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you.

2 Peter 1:12(NASB)

Verse of the Day

The old apostle Peter knew that his time on earth was short, but felt it necessary to continue reminding believers of the truths of the Word of God and of the responsibility we all have to become increasingly established in the gospel of Christ so that we may grow in grace and become increasingly fruitful in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Peter's heart desire was to establish believers in the gospel of Christ so that we diligently add virtue to our faith and supplement our virtue with moral character, perseverance, godliness, kindliness, and brotherly love. This aged apostle determined to remind us about the truth of the glorious gospel of grace and of our responsibility to mature in our spiritual walk and to be firmly grounded on the Word of truth.

Peter's longing was that men and women of God would make their calling and election sure, knowing that when we practise the truth of the Word of God and establish it in our everyday Christian lives, we will never stumble or fall, but will become firmly established in the Word of truth which we have received.

The truth that is contained in this section of Scripture is as vital for Christians in the 21st century as when it was first penned, for we have all obtained the same precious faith as did this old fisherman who walked with Jesus for three long years and who, like us, was saved by grace through faith in the death, burial, and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Like us, it was by faith that the old apostle Peter obtained the righteousness of Christ Jesus, our God and Saviour Who died for us all.so that we might live for Him.

Let us take to heart these words of wisdom and Peter's important reminder to establish ourselves in the truth of the glorious gospel of Christ and not to neglect our Christian growth or spiritual maturity.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, establish me in Your Word and the truth that it contains. I pray that I may grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus. Help me to be diligent to add virtue to my faith and supplement it with moral character, perseverance, godliness, kindliness, and brotherly love, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
