What Does 2 Peter 1:11 Mean?

for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.

2 Peter 1:11(NASB)

Verse of the Day

Our privileges and position in Christ are beyond our comprehension and we have been given all that we need for life and godliness as a free gift of grace; and it is all by faith in Him. Instead of facing God's justified wrath and eternal indignation, grace and peace has been multiplied to us, by faith in Christ Jesus our Saviour, and in Him we have been forgiven of our many sins and reckoned by our Heavenly Father as righteous.

We have been granted many precious and magnificent promises through faith in Him. And having escaped the corruption of this fallen world system and eternal separation from our Creator God by His grace, we have been justified and imputed with His nature, become joint-heirs with Christ, been given an incorruptible inheritance in Him, and are being conformed, day by day, into the very image and likeness of our risen Saviour.

No surprise that the apostle Peter urges us to make every effort to supplement our faith with goodness, which leads to knowledge, self-control, patient endurance, godliness, and brotherly affection, and this in turn brings forth a Christ-like love that is beyond human comprehension. No wonder Paul urges each one of us to make every effort to be fruitful in this way, and to diligently seek to strengthen our calling through godly living, for he knew that to do so would keep us from falling.

Indeed, we are promised that such godly attributes will be produced in us as we walk in spirit and truth which will prevent our lives from becoming unfruitful in the knowledge and understanding of Christ Jesus our God and Saviour, for in Him we are justified, and in Him we are being sanctified as we grow in grace and in a knowledge of Him, day by day. In Him we are kept by the power of God, and one day in Him we will be finally glorified, for in Him we have all we need for life and godliness, in this life and in the ages to come.

No wonder Peter encourages us to grow in grace and stand fast in the truth of the gospel of God, for in so doing we strengthen our Christian calling to the point where he is pleased to say that in Christ we secure our entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, for in Him we receive His richest supplies, both in this world and forever, to His praise and glory.

How important to take our eyes off the trifling baubles with which the enemy entices us away from a fruitful and godly life. How vital to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, for in so doing we will be grounded in our faith and kept from stumbling. The ultimate glory that we have in Christ is a maturing, fruitful, Christ-honouring life. By faith we have been brought into eternal union with Christ and there is nothing more important than to live our lives as unto the Lord so that in Him we will rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, not only in this world but throughout eternity.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, how I praise and thank You for bringing me into the eternal kingdom of my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, by grace through simple faith in Him. I pray that I may live a life that reflects His beautiful attributes as I wait with eagerness for that day when I enter Your kingdom in heaven. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
