because the LORD corrects the person he loves, just as a father corrects the son he delights in.
Proverbs 3:12(ISV)
Every good parent corrects and trains their children because they love them and want the very best for them. They want to see their children living good and wise lives - and discipline and correction is a necessary part of growing into maturity.
It takes effort on the part of the parent to ensure that discipline is never imparted in anger or from a hasty reaction, but given as a consistent, loving, firm, but fair consequence to a child's actions or attitude. This is not an easy task and many parents feel overwhelmed and inexperienced in these things. But when a parent is trying to impart godly discipline from a heart of love for Jesus and for their child, they will yield the peaceful fruit of righteousness: "For the moment, all discipline seems not to be pleasant, but painful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness."
As God's children, we too will be disciplined and trained by our Lord, for our good and for His glory. We should never forget that all God's correction and chastisement flows from His Father-heart of love. Correction, chastisement, and training is something that we should embrace. We should recognise and respond to any correction from the Lord because we are His children and He is our Father.
These wise words in this verse come from the pen of king Solomon to his own son, and the instructions he is passing on should strike at the heart of all believers, for the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. It is the wise man that does not reject or despise the reproof that comes to him from the Lord, but in humility of heart bows before God's chastening rod and learns the lessons that He would teach through His correction.
Let us not reject the LORD's discipline or be upset when he corrects us, but remember that the LORD corrects and trains those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.
Loving Father, thank you for Your correction, for I know that Your discipline is for my good and for Your eternal glory. Enable me to learn all the lessons that You would teach me. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
