"This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.
John 15:12(NASB)
God Himself, in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ, set aside His heavenly glory and came to earth as the Son of Man. He did this in order to live His life as a perfect pattern of the way God desires that all His children live.
He was the exact example of a life that was set apart unto God. A life that walked in spirit and truth, a life that set aside His own will to do the will of the Father in heaven.
As the Cross drew ever closer, the Lord Jesus knew that He would soon leave His earthly companions and return to His Father in heaven. And so He left important instructions for all of His children to follow; that we should love each other with a divine, self-sacrificial love, that only comes from Him. We should treat each other with a godly affection and gentle kindness that can only be imparted to us by His Holy Spirit, as we remain in Him and He in us.
The essence of the Christian creed is contained in this extraordinary command of Christ: "Love one another in the same manner that I have loved you." Christ willingly sacrificed His own life so that we might live, should we not do the same for others?
Let us seek to live our lives as unto the Lord, in spirit and truth. Let us love each other in the same way the Christ loved us, to the benefit to the Body, and the glory of our Lord.
Heavenly Father, I know that in and of myself I cannot love others in the same way that Christ loved me, unless I surrender my life completely into Your hands. I pray that Your Spirit of love may flow through me to others so that I can love them as You have loved me. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
