What Does Ephesians 4:25 Mean?

Therefore, laying aside falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, for we are members of one another.

Ephesians 4:25(NASB)

Verse of the Day

For three whole chapters, Paul sets out the privileges of being in Christ. He reminds us of the eternal glories that are kept in heaven for all who are in Christ Jesus, and admonishes us against living our lives in the lust of the flesh, like the unsaved Gentiles who are slaves to sin and without God in the world.

Paul calls to our remembrance that now we are children of the light who are to live our lives as unto the Lord, in accordance with the truth that is in Christ Jesus. He reminds us that we were once corrupted by the deceitful desires of our old, fleshly self, but now are to put on the new self, which is created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

And so we are called to live in spirit and truth with our Christian brethren, to walk in holiness all the days of our life, and to live godly in Christ Jesus. Our lives are to be an open and honest book for all to read. Our lives are not to hide behind a hypocritical mask of lies and deceit, or display a fictitious form of godliness, but one that puts away all falsehood and speaks the truth in love.

For we are members of the same Body, and we are all one in Christ.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, examine my heart and expose any areas that are displeasing to You. Help me to root out any hypocrisy from my heart and remove any mask of pretence that I may be hiding behind. May I always speak the truth and live godly in Christ Jesus. Teach me, I pray, to love others as You have loved me. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
