What Does Colossians 2:10 Mean?

and you have been filled by Him, who is the head over every ruler and authority.

Colossians 2:10(HCSB)

Verse of the Day

Following his severe warning to beware of false teaching traditions and the spiritual dangers enwrapped in the hollow deceptive philosophies of occultic mysticism, Paul reminds us that the entire fullness of God's nature dwells bodily in Christ, and that our union with Him has made us complete, and has brought us into the fullness of God. Through our union with Christ we lack nothing, for He has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Jesus Christ Who called us to His own glory and excellence.

The Lord Jesus is God with us. He is God in the flesh, and through His sacrifice on Calvary's Cross, He brought all those that believe on His name into union with Himself. For in Him dwells the fullness of the Godhead in bodily form, and through our union with Him, we are continuously and eternally complete in Him, lacking nothing.

How different from the wordly view of finding a person who 'completes' you. By feeling complete when we have a baby, or find the perfect job. Or even the viewpoint that we can find completeness within ourselves, that we do not need any external things to be complete.

But this is not the truth of the Bible. Outside of Christ, we are incomplete, ever searching, never finding. But in Christ, our soul can rest. He is all we need, He is the One upon Whom all our hope are founded: "You are complete in Him, Who is the head of all principality and power."

There are indeed spiritual perils and dangers that stalk the path of all believers, but He has disarmed the rulers and authorities and made a public display of them, having triumphed over them all, and now He is head over every principality, power, ruler, and authority. His victory is our victory too.

Let us rest fully in Him today, and never forget that in Him we have been made complete and that He is the head over all rule and authority, forever.

My Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, what a thrilling truth, that I am spiritually complete through my union with Christ Jesus, my Saviour. Teach me all I need to know to become more and more like Jesus with every passing day. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
