in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Colossians 2:3(NASB)
Paul had never met the Christians at Colossae and yet he had a personal interest in their spiritual maturity. Paul offered many prayers to the Lord on their behalf and wrote an instructive letter to encourage their hearts, develop their spiritual understanding, guide them in the truth of the gospel of Christ, warn them of the dangers of false teachers, and unite them together in love.
Paul knew that one of the best safeguards against false doctrine, empty philosophies, religious legalism, and apostate teaching and is to know the truth, and he is careful to reaffirm the foundational truth of the glorious gospel of grace to remind these believers: "In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."
To the unbeliever the Cross of Christ is foolishness, but from God's perfect perspective Christ is the wisdom of God. From the limited, finite perspective of fallen man, the Cross is idiocy, but from the omniscient, infinite, eternal perspective of our holy and righteous God, Christ is the power of God.
Christ is the strength of God, and Christ is the visible representation of the invisible God. And in Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom, all the treasures of knowledge, all the treasures of life, and all the treasures of matter and space in the material and spiritual realm. In Christ is hidden everything that you and I will ever need, through time and into eternity.
Today, there is an insatiable thirst for spiritual wisdom, hidden knowledge, esoteric understanding, mystical illumination, and supernatural enlightenment. Ignorant men and foolish women frantically search for a door-way into a perfect paradise through satanically inspired secret societies and mystically motivated mantras. But there is no way to achieve heavenly bliss, except through the blood of Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
Let us rejoice and be glad that we have been saved by faith in His sacrificial death and glorious Resurrection, for Christ is the Head of the Church, we are members of His Body, in Him we have all we need for life and godliness. We are accepted by God in Him, and we are complete in Him.
Heavenly Father, thank You that in Christ, I have all I need for life and godliness, because in Him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Teach me Your way and keep me on the path of truth as I study Your Word. Use me to touch the lives of those that are dead in sins and are looking for answers to life, knowing that the only answer is found in You. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
