What Does Job 1:6 Mean?

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them.

Job 1:6(NASB)

Verse of the Day

Job is an amazing example of unjustified and undeserved human suffering... but we are given a remarkable peep behind the scenes of the terrible trauma and pain he underwent. Indeed, we are given a rare glimpse into the Lord's heavenly administration as He rules the entire, created universe from on high.

As soon as Job has been introduced to the reader, we are whisked right into the presence of the Almighty, where we discover that certain sons of God (members of God's holy throng of created angels), were summoned to report their various activities to the Lord.

It appears that among these servants of God was one of His fallen angels whom we call Satan or the Accuser. Satan had rebelled against the Lord, and we read: "Now, there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them."

Since the dawn of Adam's race when man's dominion over the earth had been foolishly relinquished to this fallen angel, due to Adam's sinful disobedience, we discover that authority over the earth remains under the jurisdiction of this evil being - even to this day.

Despite him deceiving Eve and cunningly wrestling man's God-ordained dominion over the earth from Adam's hand, Satan ultimately remains under the authority of his Almighty Creator - and is required to report his activities and actions before the throne of God.

One of Satan's titles is, 'the prince of the power of the air' and another is, 'the god of this world'. But his authority is limited in both power and duration and his dominion over the earth will one day be returned to one, unique Man - the God-Man, Christ Jesus. One day, the government of the earth will be returned to the human race which was made in the image of God, in the beginning. One day, dominion over the earth will be returned to the Man, Christ Jesus, our Kinsman-Redeemer and Lord... and He will be authorised to rule and reign over the earth - until ALL things are put in dominion under His feet.

One day, the authority that was wrenched from the hands of fallen Adam, by this evil being, will be returned into the nail-pierced hands of the second Adam - the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the eternal Son of God, Who became the perfect Son of Man so that He could give His life as the ransom price for the sin of the whole world - so that WHOSOEVER believes on Him will not perish but have eternal life.

Jesus is the rightful King over all the earth, for His redeeming blood paid the purchase price for lost humanity, and in His goodness and grace, He has appointed all who believe in His sacrificial death and glorious Resurrection, to rule and reign with Him in His coming kingdom. What amazing grace. What ineffable love. What incredible mercy. What breath-taking righteousness. What a wonderful Saviour!

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for this peep into the spiritual realm. Thank You that the rule of sin and Satan over Your beautiful earth will soon be over. I praise You that despite Adam and Eve’s sin, the abdication of their responsibility, and the relinquishment of man’s dominion over the earth to Satan – that by Your grace, You sent the Lord Jesus to pay the price for our sin and redeem us from a lost eternity. By grace through faith in Him, we are forgiven of our sin and given eternal life. Help me to live for Him during my time on earth, no matter what pain and suffering I may be called upon to go through. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.
