What Does Galatians 3:9 Mean?

So those who have faith are blessed with Abraham, who had faith.

Galatians 3:9(HCSB)

Verse of the Day

A truth that was given in its embryonic form to Abraham, was opened up to the apostle Paul for our learning - and it was that all those who exercise faith in God, through Jesus Christ our Lord (our Kinsman-Redeemer), are justified by grace through faith.

All who believe on Him are reconciled to God through the blood of the Christ, having our sins washed clean away and being clothed in His righteousness, through time and into eternity.

Though this truth was opened up in its fullness to Paul on our account, it was a truth that threads its way through the Jewish Scriptures.

Abraham was justified by grace through faith because He believed God's Word. It was through him that God promised that all the nations of the earth would be blessed and every person of the earth could be saved. Everyone could be justified in the same way as Abraham was justified - by grace through trusting God's Word.

Habakkuk was one of many prophets who similarly proclaimed, "The just shall live by faith." Faith in the coming Redeemer. Faith in the shed blood of the incarnate Word of God.

Because we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour, we are justified by grace through faith. Because we believe God's Word, we are blessed in the same way that Abraham was blessed - by grace through faith.

Christ was the 'Seed' through Whom all the families of the earth would be blessed, and faith in Him removes us from the kingdom of darkness into His eternal kingdom. Faith in Christ takes us out of Adam and places us in Him.

Let us not only hear and know this truth. Let us apply it in our lives and live it out, day be day, for this is the will of God.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that in Your love, You convicted me of sin, pursued me with Your love, saved me by grace through faith in Christ, and brought me into the family of God. Thank You that like faithful Abraham, I am clothed with Your righteousness, by grace through faith. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
