and you belong to Christ, and Christ to God.
1 Corinthians 3:23(HCSB)
Christ is the anointed of God - the Messiah - the One chosen by the Father to be pre-eminent among humanity. A perfect Man Who alone can save us from our sins and bestow upon us eternal life. If we belong to Christ and He belongs to God, it is beholden upon us to know more and more of Him.
When we start to look to Who Christ is and how He impacts every aspect of our life and death, we discover that there is nothing more vital and no-one more important to every member of the human race than Christ Jesus our Lord: "And you belong to Christ and Christ belongs to God."
As the eternal God, He was and is and is to come, and prior to His birth as a babe in Bethlehem, He could claim "I AM." He pre-existed the world, and by Him and through Him all things are created and held together, both visible and invisible, in heaven and on earth. He is both eternal God yet fully man, undivided divinity yet absolute humanity, united forever in the precious person of the Lord Jesus Christ.
His incarnation and unique birth, His tests and temptations, His sinless life and obedient death, His Resurrection, Ascension, glorification, and exultation are all aspects of the person of Christ: "And you belong to Christ and Christ belongs to God."
The Scriptures point to Him, the Law brings us to Him, prophecies proclaim Him, and the psalms glorify Him. He uniquely holds three glorious offices of Prophet, Priest, and King, and He is the ultimate and final authority in every aspect of His elevated positions. And because we have trusted Him as Saviour, we have been forgiven of our sins, sealed by the Holy Spirit, imputed with His righteousness, in-dwelt by the Spirit of Christ, showered with the riches of His grace, seated with Him in heavenly places, adopted as sons of God, and made joint-heirs of Christ's rich inheritance: "And you belong to Christ and Christ belongs to God."
If we belong to Christ and He belongs to God, is it not beholden upon us to know more and more of Him?
Loving Father, thank You that I belong to Christ. I pray that I may know Christ more and more. May I know Him more deeply and intimately, even today. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
