What Does Daniel 2:44 Mean?

"In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, and that kingdom will not be left for another people; it will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, but it will itself endure forever.

Daniel 2:44(NASB)

Verse Thoughts

The Lord caused Nebuchadnezzar, the great king of Babylon, to have a prophetic dream which greatly disturbed him. However, he was unable to call it to memory and insisted that unless his wise men and soothsayers told him his dream, together with its interpretation, they would all be killed.

God revealed the king's dream to His faithful servant, Daniel, who was a noble young man who had been captured in Israel, during the Babylonian invasion of the beautiful Land of Israel. Daniel had been selected to be trained in the Babylonian arts and would have been counted among the 'wise men' of Babylon - facing certain death.

God revealed the forgotten dream to Daniel, who not only described it in detail, but gave an in-depth, divinely revealed interpretation, which has continued to be played out on the pages of history for many centuries. The entire sequence of events, painted by Daniel, presents God's ongoing purpose and plan, for the redemption of man - for those with eyes to see and a heart that trusts in the Lord.

The young nobleman described a series of political kingdoms - worldwide, which would supersede one another by destroying the proceeding one. Each newly established kingdom would be inferior to the previous ones, until the time of the end, when the great God of all god's would send His anointed King of all kings and Saviour of all to smash to pieces every vestige of this succession of kingdoms, which enslaved the world for so long.

Having described each kingdom in detail, Daniel lays special emphasis on the final and most ferocious of these world-empires and their godless 'kings', revealing the final outcome. "In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a Kingdom above all kingdoms, which will never be destroyed," he revealed to the great king Nebuchadnezzar - whom God destined to be the first and greatest of this progression of evil empires.

The great God of heaven and earth, Who gave this revelation to Daniel was going to utterly destroy every fragment of his Babylonian empire, and all the great kingdoms that would succeed him..... "that final Kingdom will not be left for another people," Daniel explained to the king. "That final supernatural Kingdom will crush, and put an end to all these earthly kingdoms.

Daniel explained that the last Kingdom in the king's forgotten dream, would supernaturally shatter every other world power - and would do so without human hands or worldly weaponry. It would crush each rulership and grind to powder all former kingdoms... and would itself endure forever and ever".

As we look back over the pages of history, we see how Nebuchadnezzar's prophetic dream and Daniel astonishing interpretation has slowly yet systematically come to pass, as Babylon, the kingdom of 'gold' was overthrown by Persia, Greece and the great Roman empire.

We are living in the last days, when that last and most brutal, evil empire will emerge onto the world scene in man's final, frantic attempt to overthrow the God of all gods and His King of all kings - but as prophesied by Daniel, so long ago, "In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, and that kingdom will not be left for another people. It is the Kingdom of God's anointed Christ, Who will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms - but His Kingdom will itself endure forever and ever - praise His holy name.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, it is amazing and wonderful to realise that You know the end from the beginning and that from the foundation of the world; You purposed in Your heart to redeem Your fallen race and return the sceptre of power to humanity - through the Person and Work of Your only begotten Son. Thank You that no evil weapon nor nefarious plan formed against us will triumph, for Jesus won the victory over every enemy of our soul - 2000 years ago on a wooden cross, when He shed His lifeblood to pay the price for the sin of the whole world - including MY sin. Thank You that You have revealed Your purpose and plan through the prophetic writings of Daniel and other holy men of God and that every kingdom of this evil world system will soon be supernaturally crushed by Christ - and His kingdom will never end. Open the eyes of those who have been blinded by the god of this world and bring many into Your kingdom, we pray, before it is too late. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.
