who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
Titus 2:14(NASB)
Our salvation is nothing to do with what we DO but rests entirely upon what the Lord Jesus Christ has DONE. Our salvation has everything to do with Christ's merit and His finished work on the Cross and has nothing to do with our human merit or the good deeds we may do. Our salvation is a free gift of God's grace for all who simply believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, by grace through faith in Him. Our salvation rests of the finished work of Christ on the Cross of Calvary: "So that all who believe on Him would not perish but have everlasting life."
Our salvation has nothing to do with our DOING but has everything to do with our BELIEVING: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved," the jailer was told by Paul. We also are called to rest on what God has already provided for us, by grace through faith. We are to have confidence on all that the Lord Jesus carried out at Calvary and depend on the saving work that His death and Resurrection provides for all who trust on Him and rest in His truth.
"Christ gave Himself to redeem us from all lawlessness and to cleanse us for Himself from all sin," and His shed blood at Calvary was the full and final price that was demanded as payment for our sin, by a righteous and holy God. We have not simply been forgiven of our sins but have been redeemed from all our lawlessness for a purpose: "That we might become His own possession." We have been bought with a price, the precious blood of Christ, and so we should glorify God in our body and be eager to do the good works that God has prepared and foreordained to carry out in the life of each of His children.
Let us never forget that our redemption has nothing to do with what we DO but has everything to do with what Christ has DONE. It has nothing to do with what we DO but with what we BELIEVE.
He saved us, not because of the righteous things we have done, but because of His mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit, and generously poured out His Spirit upon us, through Jesus Christ our Saviour.
Heavenly Father, what glorious grace You have poured out on me and all who believe in Jesus Christ’s finished work at Calvary. Thank You for my salvation, that I have been redeemed with the precious blood of Christ and imputed with His perfect righteousness and His abundant life. And thank You that I have been baptised into the Body of Christ so that together we may become a people for His own possession. May I be eager to be used by You until it is not I that live in this Body but Christ Who lives in me. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
