And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written.
John 21:25(NASB)
Throughout his Gospel, the apostle John presented the Lord Jesus Christ as Almighty God. As the Word made flesh, Jesus dwelt with His creation who despised and rejected Him, and yet in love He went to the Cross to pay the full price for our sins (for only the shedding of His righteous blood would satisfy the righteous requirement of a holy God).
John only related a fraction of the inexhaustible fullness of all Christ did during His 33 years on earth, which was spent going about doing good. He humbled Himself and only did those things He heard from His Father in heaven, and He worked the works of God through the mighty power of the indwelling Holy Spirit.
We tend to think of the miracles He performed, the places He travelled, and the many teachings and parables He told, and miss other things, such as all the things done in the spiritual realm, prayers and petitions communing with the Father, through the Spirit. Some things that Jesus accomplished during His time on earth will only be really understood by mortal man when we stand in His presence and see Him face to face. And maybe there are yet more things, deeper things pertaining to Jesus' time on earth that we will never fully know or understand.
John walked with his Saviour for three wonderful years, and wrote his Gospel so that we would believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing we may have life in His name. However, John's Gospel only touches on the fringe of the inexhaustible fullness of all that Jesus did - for words are insufficient to capture the infinite riches of His unparalled life.
Time and space are insufficient mediums to contain all the unsearchable riches of all that Jesus Christ did during His tabernacle on earth. No wonder John was caused by the Holy Spirit to write: "And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which, if they were written one by one, I suppose not even the world itself could contain the books that would be written."
Thank You, Father, for the Scriptures that have started to open up all that Jesus was, and is, and is to be. I pray that in both time and eternity, You will continue to open my heart to a deeper understanding of Jesus. Praise Your holy name, AMEN.
