What Does Leviticus 18:22 Mean?

'You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.

Leviticus 18:22(NASB)

Verse of the Day

Whatever translation of the Bible you choose to read, the practice of homosexuality in the eyes of God is a sin. It is detestable and an abomination in the eyes of the Lord. And although the Old Testament Law of Moses was given explicitly to Israel, nevertheless the practice of same-sex relations (of both men and women) is equally abhorrent to the Lord in the New Testament.

The rewriting of the Scriptures to remove the disgraceful stigma of this gross sexual sin, which is so detestable to the Lord, has been attempted by certain people who remain proudly impervious to God's Law. They vainly manipulate and massage the inerrant Word of God, redefining truth in order to comply with their own degenerate minds and arrogant pride. This prideful glorification of sexual sin serves only to intensify the abomination of sodomy. But the truth remains forever settled in heaven.

In these few short chapters that condemn the abominable practices of homosexuality, lesbianism, and bestiality the phrase: "I AM THE LORD," booms out the repetitive, warning-toll, forbidding these ungodly practices. And the Word of God should be sufficient prohibition for all who are born from above and seek to live godly in Christ Jesus.

Israel was cautioned not to engage in the ungodly customs of the surrounding nations, and we too are strongly exhorted not to participate in the evil practices of this present evil age, for although we are in the world, we are not part of it, nor are we to participate in its evil. Indeed, our citizenship is in heaven: "From which we also eagerly wait for our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ."

In a God-hating, Christ-rejecting, wicked world that has bowed to satanically inspired evil and the sinful practices of the world, the divine institution of Christian marriage (which mirrors the love that Christ Jesus has for His Bride, the Church), needs to be a faithful witness to the world of the wisdom of our God. It should also act as a reminder to fallen man of the authority our Creator has over the whole of His creation.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, my heart is grieved to witness the degrading level to which mankind has plummeted due to sin. I repent of my part in the wicked ways of the world, whether by commission or omission, whether by being enticed by the evil practices of sin or by not standing up for what is right when I had an opportunity. Forgive me, Lord. I pray that in Your anger against the evil of this world, You will continue to show mercy and grace on this generation, and on those that are to come. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
