What Does 1 John 1:5 Mean?

This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.

1 John 1:5(NASB)

Verse of the Day

The heavens declare the glory of God to humanity and the scriptures increasingly unveil His perfect character and holy attributes to all the children of men, as we see multiple examples of His loving-kindness, His long-suffering mercy, and His gracious faithfulness to all generations.

But in these last days, God has given us the greatest revelation of Himself in the person of His only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the eternal Son of God and He is the perfect Son of Man Who is the Light of the world and Life eternal for all who trust in Him: "In Him was life and His life was the light of men." He is the very light that shines in the darkness, and the darkness is not able to overcome it - for God is Light and in Him there is no darkness at all.

Every member of the human race is born into this world 'in Adam', and because of man's rebellion, we are all tainted with a sin nature and alienated from God. As fallen man, we are identified with Adam's sin, the consequences of which are sin, death, darkness, and eternal separation from God. But those who trust Christ as Saviour and believe in the only begotten Son of God, are transferred out of Adam and placed 'in Christ'. They are taken out of the family of Satan and placed into the family of God. They are removed from the kingdom of darkness and placed into the kingdom of light - the kingdom of God's dear Son.

All who trust in Christ are no longer identified with the first man Adam, but the second Man Jesus Christ our God and our Saviour. And the joyful message that the apostle John announced to us all is: "God is LIGHT and in Him is no darkness at all."

Let us therefore walk in the light as He is in the light, and may the light of God in Christ shine in our hearts and show forth in our lives so that men may see the light of Christ shining in our lives as we abide in Him and He in us.

My Prayer

Thank You, Father, that the light of Jesus has shone into my heart, for I have trusted Him alone as my Saviour and Lord. May the light of Your love shine through me, until it is not I that shines in my life, but the light of Christ shining through me. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.
